final update

Well, after a month and a half of fruitlessly searching and wasting some money and lots of time. The PageFlip experiment went belly up with the rest of the HTML5 e-reader plugins.
I threw in the towel, made a rather hopeless frustrated post on twitter then thought to ask my web host, Squarespace a different question.
Can I embed or use a pdf file directly through the website?
answer?
Yup, just do this or this and BAM e-reader with reasonable navigation tools and options.
I will have to create the PDFs on the fly from several blogs at a time then upload.
The only issue will be can I update a single file (pdf) or create several pdfs as I continue the blog.
So what happens now?
Initially, I will be spending time re-editing the original blogs into the form that I will convert to PDF that I will then embed.
Once that is underway, I will return here to write new entries.
Then I will repeat the process of editing the blog into PDF as we go forward.
At some point some coder will tell me, "Hey Mike, I can simplify this by (insert code that makes an editable e-reader online) and give it to me.
or not.
It won't be the first time.
So look to Defconzero.us for the PDF version, while I continue to use the blog for new parts plus a few side stories.
So, come back in a week for the first official Defcon blog!

DefCon Zero Updates

I have been on hiatus from this story mostly for technical reasons.
I am trying to implement an eReader called pageflip into the main website. I had to set all that aside as family concerns pushed just about everything to one side.
I am returning to writing the blog first of next week as I hope to have time to get serious about it.
So look forward to its return.
some new story arcs will start, plus a change of character.
a complete rewrite of the original blog posts with some major corrections are due.
stay tuned!

DefCon 0: A Tale of the Wastelands

So here I am back at the beginning.
You may ask why?
I may answer in three ways.

  1. Make it better, get some much-needed editing done and reframe my story somewhat.
  2. Still trying to find a better format to tell this story
  3. Because I want the whole story to be here in its own blog.
I am trying to find a means to tell this story differently than I have with my other serial blogs.
For one thing, DefCon will be told in Seasons like TV shows. You will notice this as I will write them like episodes.
I.E.
DefCon 0.1, DefCon 0.2 etc, BUT I also reserve the chance to insert other stories or POVs or side trips in under DefCon 0.1.1 and so on.
I suspect I will keep myself amused and you reading.
Stay tuned as we began again.... also I will be continuing the story fro where I left off. I just have to sort posts or post in two places. Hopefully, by the time I get this all in one place I will have a mastered format.
